Music Lessons
Private music lessons are offered from beginning to advanced levels in Voice,
Classical and Jazz Piano, Classical and Suzuki Violin, Fiddle, Viola, Cello,
Bass, Trumpet, Trombone, Saxophone, Flute, Harp, Recorder, Clarinet, Guitar,
French Horn, Classical and Jazz Guitar, and Percussion. Please ask about instruction
in Classical, Folk, and Contemporary styles.
Suzuki Violin
Suzuki
Violin, taught by certified instructors, is a special approach
where a care-giver/parent accompanies the student to class
and coaches at home
while learning to play violin with the child. Both attend weekly private
and group classes and are required to take part in seasonal concerts.
Chamber
Music Ensembles
Chamber music ensembles include
Wind, String, Percussion, and Brass Ensembles. Participation
in the Worcester Youth Orchestras (WYO) is required.
Music Theory
Music
theory is the study of the musical language, helping students
to expand their musicianship and musical understanding. Classes
are available weekly
and are strongly recommended for all music students. The cost of music
theory classes is included in the enrolhnent fee for the youth choruses
only.
Student
Recitals
Monthly student recitals are open at no
cost to all students at the School and students studying
at other schools. Families are invited to attend at no
extra cost.
Faculty
Recitals
Faculty recitals are scheduled once each
semester. Families of students and faculty are invited
to attend at no extra cost.
Jazz
Programs
Jazz programs are offered throughout
the year.
Summer Music Programs
Music
studies are avilables during the summer.

Orchestras (WYO)
Sunday Program
The Worcester Youth Orchestras (WYO) Sunday Program incorporates the Worcester
Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Worcester Youth Concert Orchestra, the Preparatory
Orchestra, and sectional ensembles. The full day of instruction includes
rehearsal, ensemble and sectionals coaching, private study, music theory,
and performance
opportunities for each student. The day's activities begin at 12:30p.m.
and end by 6:30pm.
Students are accepted into the program
through an audition process and must make a full-year coommitment
to the program and ALL program performances. Orchestra attendance
and make up policies apply.
The Worcester Youth Symphony
Orchestra (WYSO) is
comprised of the older teens and young adults in WYO. It is directed by
Orchestra Director and Conductor Cynthia Woods. WYSO completed
a tour of Eastem Europe
in 2001, playing in concerts in Germany, the Czech Republic, and Hungary.
WYSO has earned the reputation of being one of the best
youth orchestras in New
England. Its repertoire includes works by major classical composers and
popular music composers.
The Worcester Youth Concert Orchestra
(WYCO) is comprised of students in their early teens.
WYCO has performed several concerts in Philadelphia and in
Washington D.C. Audrey White has been its conductor since
the fall of 2003. This orchestra explores beginner to intermediate
level music of the classical and popular genres.
The Preparatory Orchestra is
for elementary age string players in grades 4-6. It offers
an initial opportunity to play in a large orchestral ensemble.
Repertoire consists of easy to average classical works, popular
famous themes, and popular music. Cynthia Woods oversees
The Preparatory Orchestra and its conductor.

Saturday Program
The Worcester
Youth Chorale (WYC) is
an advanced youth chorus for mixed voices and performs frequently
in the community. Also directed by Malcolm Halliday, WYC performs
the great choral music from the Renaissance, Baroque, and Classical
periods, as well as more contemporary styles and diverse ethnic
traditions. The Chorale assembles on Saturday momings and includes
a music theory lesson. Vocal auditions are held for new singers
by appointment with Mr. Halliday.
The Worcester Children's
Chorus (WCC) is directed by Malcolm
Halliday, who also directs the accomplished Master Singers of Worcester.
The Chorus assembles on Saturday mornings, and includes a
music theory lesson.
Attracting young voices from the greater Worcester area, it is an outstanding
chorus for treble voices, performing frequently in the community.
Tbe WCC repertoire draws on the great
choral music of the past, a variety of contemporary musical
styles, and many diverse ethnic traditions. Vocal auditions
