PASOW
has developed innovative programs to respond to many of the most
critical issues facing society today teen pregnancy,
violence, childhood neglect, lack of intergenerational contact and
ask our dance, music, and theatre faculty to teach in these programs
each semester. This series of programs is named "The Power of
the Arts", as the performing arts are a powerful tool in addressing
the toughest societal issues, such as:
Developmental
Abilities Program: Funded by and in
partnership with the Seven Hills Foundation, this program offers
music, dance, and theatre arts for up to 25 children within a wide
rauge of intellectual functioning. Children from the Worcester
Public Schools and Seven Hills participate in this program.
Inner City Life: Funded by the Worcester Cultural
Commission and developed in partnership with several community
agencies, children from across the City shared traditional, contemporary,
and
patriotic songs with elders at nursing homes in Worcester. This
intergenerational program is called "Children of Song."
Teen Pregnancy Prevention: Partnering
with the Worcester Youth Guidance Center and its Peer Leadership
Program,
we developed, through Theatre Improvisation, a "script" for
just saying "no" to early sexual engagement and its
associated responsibilities.
Violence: In partnership with
Rainbow Child Development and through the vehicle of Theatre
Improvisation,
we developed a program of Conflict Resolution through peaceful
dialogue for children aged 7-12 years attending Belmont Hill
School.
